A Winter Morning on Boxford Farm…

By Emma Embery on Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Down on Boxford Farm the evenings are drawing in, the cold snap has begun and the snow is beginning to fall; and although the winter weather may make us want to curl up on the sofa in front of the fire, it is actually a key time for the apple nurturing process, and therefore creates a perfect opportunity for us to show you what we get up to down on the farm in the winter months.

We began the filming of our third seasonal video at dawn and were welcomed by a beautiful view of the morning mist coating the orchard, brightening up an otherwise gloomy English morning.

Apple expert and Boxford Farm manager Robert England was on hand to explain what we get up to down on the farm during the winter months. During November and February pruning is our main activity and it is essential during this time that we cut the right branches to ensure that the trees blossom beautifully next spring.

We never have a quiet month down here on Boxford Farm. You would be surprised at how much TLC we give the apple trees even during their “off-season” to make sure they produce the juiciest, most delicious apples and apple juice that we all love!

Make sure you come back to check out our winter videos in the ‘Down on the farm’ section!
